Alan Blum is professor and Gerald Leon Wallace MD Endowed Chair in Family Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Tuscaloosa. A self-taught artist, he has published three books of his sketches and stories of patients, and his drawings have appeared in more than a dozen textbooks and medical journals, beginning with “The Waiting Room” in the January 2, 1981 issue of JAMA. His artworks have been regularly featured in Pulse since 2010. He is a frequent guest speaker, now via Zoom, in medical-school humanities courses. PS I just looked at your website and your books there. Oh my. Do you sell them as wee chapbooks? I read them on the site but one was too small ( the print) to get it all.
Alan, you did it again. Love the sketches and your observations. My father wire his dress up hat all of his life. He was school superintendent and felt he should look the part. I miss dress hats on men. They can look either handsome or cocky, if tilted back.
