Pumpkin Brains

About the Artwork

“Although carving pumpkins every year is something we do for the kids, I think I do it as much for myself as for them. This is one of the few times a year where I can pause my busy life as a mom and as a doctor to celebrate Halloween and have an outlet for my creative side, which I never get to express anymore. Ironically, I get the most enjoyment out of carving pumpkins with a medical theme. This year was a pumpkin brain, complete with sulci, gyri and the deep interhemispheric fissure. And of course a spooky skeletal face, though my favorite part was how the brain lit up in the dark.”

Jessica Faraci is a family-medicine doctor practicing in Maine. “Although most of my time is spent taking care of my panel of patients and chasing after my four kids, I occasionally find time to pursue my hobbies of writing, drawing and otherwise having fun being creative.”
