About the Artwork
“After my first two decades in outpatient practice, I became aware of Ayurvedic medicine, a 5,000-year-old tradition from the ancient Indian subcontinent. Sri Swamini Mayatitananda, also known as Maya Tiwari or simply Mother Maya, was one of my revered teachers. She taught me that the foundation of health lies in what we consume, including food. My drawing, in Prismacolor pencil, honors her and the wisdom of Ayurveda. Maya appears with a collection of nutritious foods and an Ayurvedic textbook. Three butter lamps and their flames are in the background.”
Sandra Relyea has been a pediatric physician assistant for forty years. She lives and works in Port Angeles, WA. “The wilderness and art are my havens.”
