About the Artwork
“Wings is an artist book where a map forms the body of a bird. The wings are made from the pile of papers that come with my many prescriptions for my neurological condition. The ‘cover wing’ is from a script for pyridostigmine, a medication which helps muscles move and allows easier breathing.”
Heather Finlay-Morreale is a physician, patient (myasthenia gravis and neuro-Sjögren’s), writer/storyteller, artist and advocate. Her work focuses on the humanity and dignity of all the cogs in the medical machine, both patients and caregivers. She is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA.
