About the Artwork
“Given the increased presence of politics in medicine and the exam room, I am aware that I more frequently feel I am carefully threading the needle when choosing my words with patients. I believe the goal of every patient encounter is to connect on some level. In the current climate, the words I use have a different potency in either facilitating or interfering with the connection.”
Lisa S. Gussak has been exploring the creative medium of photography for the past decade. She enjoys connecting images from the natural world to her work as a family physician. “Walking with my camera gives me the opportunity to observe the natural world, to see things as they appear in the moment and to reflect, all of which inform the care I provide to patients and their families.”

Amazingly beautiful photo and thought provoking comment on the current state of medical practice
Gorgeous image, that magnificent rock… and oh, what a metaphor for the work you do. Thank you for both!
So beautiful, the photo and your words.
