About the Artwork
“In a past life, I was advised by an administrator that I was ‘too sensitive to the needs of others,’ and that I needed to change in order to move ahead in healthcare leadership. I never took that piece of ‘advice’ and instead channeled that moment into this artistic piece. The image depicts me in a life raft of sensitivity (a strength), unbothered by the ugliness of modern healthcare and countering the archaic and distorted perception that sensitivity correlates to weakness.”
Anson Koshy is a developmental pediatrician and visual artist in Houston. He teaches humanities and ethics to medical students and residents at the McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics, part of the McGovern Medical School, where he also serves as the center’s artist in residence.
