About the Artwork
“This image is a charcoal drawing of a man with a haunted expression; he could be healthy or he could be dying.”
Maia Hoffenberg is a high-school student on the East coast. She has a grandmother with Alzheimer’s disease who lives with her family. Watching her slowly wither away has made Maia very attuned to the fragility of life, and the beauty within it.
