About the Artwork
“This photograph depicts a discarded pile of daily contact lenses, an unnoticed aftermath of daily routines. A clutter of used lenses lies on the palm, overlooked by unhappy anthropomorphic faces (more used lenses) on the fingertips. This image invites contemplation of the need for sustainable practices at all socioeconomic levels. It reminds us that even something as basic as vision is subject to unrelenting market forces.”
Christina Oh is a third-year medical student at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. “From a young age I’ve always loved art, and I hope to continue to incorporate it into my professional life.”
