About the Artwork
“This photograph, taken at Thumpertown Beach on Cape Cod, is one of a series taken while conducting a bodily awareness walk. For nurses, it’s never about taking the easy route; it’s always about choosing the best approach.”
Denise Gawley is a graduate of Montclair State University, where she earned a BA in philosophy. She obtained her master of science in nursing (MSN) from Loyola University New Orleans in 2012 and is currently pursuing a doctorate in medical humanities at Drew University. “Throughout my nursing career, I have focused on advocating for the peaceful deaths of patients and providing closure for their loved ones.”

I love the shift in perspective that Ascend invites us into. Peaceful deaths and closure for their loved ones is worth advocating for and the visual evokes the path you seek for those you care for. Thank you!
