I like how this is left open so that the “she” of the poem could either be the person who has died who has never had an opportunity to wear the dress until now, or the long-suffering wife of a man who has finally gone from her life so she can do as she pleases.
I want to again thank all of you who have commented. I hope that somehow you see this message..
So love this!
A poignant and often sadly true poem. Pris is a master of expressing the feelings with which so many can identify.
Leaves me breathless!!
Fabulous! So many ways to interpret. I choose that she now has her own identity and self worth.
.
Is this my friend from school days, John? Thanks for coming to comment! Write me.
Oh my. Meanings and feelings keep reverberating from this beautiful haiku.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words but there is no picture that could convey all that these eight words do.
I’m overwhelmed by the nice comments. Thank you so much!
A poignant and beautiful haiku.
I particularly like the word ‘finally” in it,
right in the middle between the funeral and the dress.
Myron, thank you. Long time no see. I miss you.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Pris is one of the haiku community’s foremost poets
but she’s outdone herself here. Wow
A stunner.
