About the Artwork
“I created this digital portrait of my dog by drawing and combining several layers in Procreate. As a premedical student, I have often found it difficult to maintain my hobbies while juggling school, extracurriculars and other work (a problem shared by many of my peers). To me, the portrait represents the multifaceted nature of our personalities and how each layer is crucial in contributing to the final product, serving as a reminder of the importance of maintaining balance.”
Anindita Lal is a Boston University alumnus with a BA in biology and neurobiology. As a premedical student, she has always been interested by the intersection of art and medicine and believes in the healing power of art. She was awarded a grant by the Massachusetts Cultural Council for her study of Madhubani, an ancient Indian folk-art form, which she has practiced since 2015. “During the 2020 quarantine, I began experimenting more with digital art.”
