Children’s Memorial

About the Artwork

“This is a watercolor painting of the Edgartown Lighthouse on Martha’s Vineyard. Every September there is a memorial service for lost children, and our son has a memorial stone at the base of the lighthouse. We lost Liam to fentanyl poisoning in September 2016, so  this memorial is our spiritual place to remember him.”

Susan Cunningham has been doing watercolor painting for two years, and the Edgartown Lighthouse has been a recurring subject in her work.

I feel this scene. …that darkness. The dark place this mother goes, from the loss of my son. He Unknowingly, ingested fentanyl, which took his life, and my world with him. I’m sending you all of my heartfelt mothers’ love to you, today and always.

Thank you Barbara. We just got back home from this year’s Memorial and as always, it was a peaceful, spiritual yet heartbreaking experience.
