About the Artwork
“This watercolor and pencil piece was created as a download on an autumn afternoon in 2024. After moving to the United States to pursue my master’s degree, I found myself experiencing a spike of stress and a lot of anxiety, which affected my hormonal health. That afternoon I realized that I had to sort out my pain, see it, attend to it and give it love, care and time.”
María Carolina Alderete has a bachelor’s degree in social communication from the University of Buenos Aires and is a master’s degree student in arts in religion at Drew University Theological School in New Jersey. “Today, I’m recovering from Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, diagnosed in 2014, an autoimmune disease that was treated with diet, dietary supplementation and exercise, as well as with therapy and a ten-year path of personal discovery through yoga, art, dance and, above all, through creative and academic writing.”
